The Fairbanks Goldpanners extended their Alaska Baseball League lead Wednesday with a 7-1 victory over the Chugiak Chinooks in Fairbanks. One game behind the Goldpanners are the Bucs, who were idle, and the Miners, who beat the Oilers 5-2 to earn a share of second place.

Three Fairbanks pitchers combined for a 16-strikeout three-hitter. Starter Michael Dingilian fanned 11 in six innings for the win.

The Goldpanners capitalized on two Chugiak errors in a four-run third inning. Two runs scored on an error by the third baseman and another crossed on an error by the catcher.

Fairbank led 2-1 after two innings. Nick Catalano ripped a two-run double for Fairbanks in the first, and Chance Gusbeth belted a two-out solo home run for the Chinooks in the second.

Miners 5, Oilers 2

An infield flyball ended a ninth-inning rally for the Oilers, who had the tying run at the plate Wednesday in a 5-2 loss to Mat-Su in Palmer.

The Miners pounded out 11 hits and got a 12-strikeout performance from Trevor Bettencourt, who pitched 72/3 scoreless innings.

Brenden Farnery and Nick LaFace delivered RBI singles for the Miners in the fourth inning and Christin Stewart's two-run double in the seventh provided insurance.
