Thursday in the Alaska Baseball League

Goldpanners 5, Chinooks 1

The Fairbanks Goldpanners strengthened their hold on first place in the Alaska Baseball League on Thursday, taking down the last-place Chugiak Chinooks x-x at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks.

The rest of the ABL was idle Thursday, so Fairbanks now holds a 1 1/2 game lead on the Anchorage Bucs and Mat-Su Miners, who are tied for second place.

The Goldpanners scored all five of their runs in the first two innings, getting a home run from David Edwards in the first, second-inning RBI-doubles from Casey Munoz, David Fletcher and Payden Cawley-Lamb and an RBI-single from Alex Rubanowitz in the second inning.

Fairbanks starter Drew Mitrisin earned a win, striking out two and walking two in five innings. Cody Moffett pitched the final four innings and struck out six.
