"Stand your ground" was not a factor in the Zimmerman case. Zimmerman, being flat on his back on the ground had no way to retreat. Nevertheless, Eric Holder cites this case as a reason to repeal these laws.
For those who don't know: "stand your ground" says this. If you work night shift and you need your car to get to work and someone wants to take it, you do not have to retreat and give up your car (and your job). Under the old rules, you had to give way.
Another example: back in the day some black kids were demonstrating against racism in their (Deep South) school. The cops arrived, also a fire truck to hose the kids down and drive them off. Also a truck carrying four black men with shotguns. The fire truck left, the cops left, the demonstration went on as planned. Look up "Deacons for Defense and Justice," an armed self-defense civil rights group. These men stood their ground and helped make us a better nation.
