Man dies of injuries suffered in Mountain View attack, police say

A 40-year-old man has died of injuries suffered after he was hit in the face and left in an Anchorage parking lot earlier in the week, police said. Another man arrested after the incident has now been charged with manslaughter, police said.

Stefan Whitis, 40, never regained consciousness after he was taken to the hospital on Wednesday evening, police said in an email on Friday.

Whitis was found in a parking lot in Mountain View between North Flower and North Klevin streets on Wednesday night, police said. Police said they later learned a fight broke out among a group of people who'd been drinking there, and that Whitis had been hit in the face by Joshua Lambert, 23.

Whitis fell and hit his head on the pavement, police said.

Lambert was initially charged with assault and now has been charged with manslaughter, police said.
