The deadline for nominating a young person for a Summer of Heroes award is Monday, July 22. The award acknowledges five Alaska youth, ages 6-18, who are making a positive impact in the lives of others. Previous winners have included young people who organized clean-up operations on the Kenai River and hospitality accommodations for soldiers returning to Fairbanks from combat zones.
The five individuals selected this year will each receive a scholarship for $1,500 and a trip to the Alaska State Fair in Palmer where they will receive their awards on Aug. 25. Nominations can be made at alaskacommunications.com/summerofheroes, Alaska Communications retail stores and Boys & Girls Clubs.
