Alaska State Troopers rescued a California hiker who fell and broke her ankle near the summit of Deer Mountain in Ketchikan.
The 42-year-old woman from San Diego was on the trail, which has an elevation of about 3,000 feet, around 12:50 p.m. Monday when she slipped on log steps that were wet, according to an online dispatch from State Troopers.
The tourist was able to provide GPS coordinates to her location. The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad responded, and she was airlifted to Ketchikan Peace Health Medical Center where she was treated for a broken left ankle.
