Boys & Girls Clubs-Alaska to terminate hockey program

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS – ALASKA TO TERMINATE HOCKEY PROGRAM

Anchorage, Alaska - After many years of offering recreational hockey, Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska is terminating it's hockey program effective immediately. Many factors lead to this decision, the largest being the cost and availability of indoor ice and the infrastructure to run this type of program.

Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska's CEO Alana Humphrey states, "With many other organizations in our community that do an excellent job running recreational and competitive hockey programs, we are confident that while we are stepping out of the hockey arena, young players will still be well served."

Other Boys & Girls Club athletic programs will continue to operate, such as volleyball, basketball, football and soccer. The Club also has plans for indoor soccer for children under age 8 this fall. Other sports are being evaluated for inclusion in the menu of Boys & Girls Club activities, including an outdoor exploration program to be launched Summer 2014.
