Letter: Compass writer forgets teachings

The holier-than-thou tone of Joann Pantages' Compass piece disturbed me. I agree that the moral fabric of our current society needs strengthening, but I don't see how gay marriage threatens it. From my observations over a lifetime, being gay is not a choice but an inborn trait. So why would we deny gay people the right to have their stable, loving relationships legally recognized? As for raising children, it is far worse for children to be raised by abusive and/or alcoholic parents than by gay parents. And she also seems to be one of those anti-abortion people who say they support life but aren't interested in seeing that all mothers get prenatal care and all children get the health care and education they need. I wonder if she's familiar with the teachings of the man who reportedly said we should take care of the poor and that we should not judge, lest we be judged.
