Police: $28K in pot seized in North Slope Borough

Police and postal inspectors seized 425.5 grams of marijuana being shipped from Fairbanks to Kaktovik, according to North Slope Borough Police.

The drugs, which police say have an estimated street value of $28,366, were packaged for sale when the parcel was intercepted Tuesday, according to a press release.

Police withheld the names of the shipper and receiver, pending further investigation. The suspects are expected to be charged with misconduct involving an controlled substance, a felony punishable by up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $50,000.

Tuesday's incident was a result of an ongoing investigation into alcohol and drug trafficking in North Slope Borough. Those with tips on illegal drugs or alcohol are encouraged call the police hotline at 907-852-0314 or 800-478-3784.
