Anchorage police are looking for a missing man whose family hasn't seen him since late March.
In a message sent to media outlets Tuesday afternoon, police ask for help in finding Samuel Ephram McAlpine, a 37-year-old Alaska Native described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 170 pounds and with black hair and brown eyes. He was living in Eagle River at the time of his disappearance.
Police said McAlpine frequently disappears for weeks at a time but usually remains in contact with his family. In March, he told his mother he was going on a date, but never returned.
McAlpine's sister reported him missing March 29, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said. McAlpine did not appear to have any so-called "risk factors" -- such as medical conditions or suicidal tendencies -- so police did not issue a statement on his case sooner, Shell said.
According to court records, McAlpine has a warrant for his arrest. He pleaded no contest to a felony drug possession charge in October 2011, the records show, but apparently did not report to jail. The warrant was issued April 3, 2013.
"That could be a reason, too," Shell said.
