Tom Weller ("People are gaming the system just because they can get away with it," Letters, Aug. 17) must not be aware of the many groups that distribute donated gifts to underprivileged children. Some of those gifts include laptops, tablets and other expensive items they would not otherwise have. This doesn't take away from their food budget nor does it put money in their pocket for clothes or school supplies. It does nourish their minds and emotions.
The "travesty" is that more people don't participate.
