Several Daily News stories about the 2008 fatal shooting of Anthony Brown by Keane-Alexander Crawford erroneously reported that Brown was shot while intervening to stop an assault by Crawford on Crawford's wife. Those accounts were based on law enforcement sources. However, no witness ever reported that Crawford was fighting with his wife or that Brown was shot for intervening in such a fight. Witnesses said a dispute between Crawford, Brown, and another man became physical as Crawford and his children were about to leave a home they were visiting. Brown was shot shortly afterwards when he came out of the apartment, as Crawford and his family were preparing to leave. Crawford is appealing his murder conviction for shooting Brown.
