I've heard a lot of good reports coming from Anchorage's first fenced dog park, at Arctic Benson Park on Arctic between 31st and 32nd avenues.
Here's the latest news: Beginning last week, the municipality officially designated four hours a week for dogs under 25 pounds and service dogs. I believe the service dog inclusion was more of a nod to the fact that the city and Midtown Community Council don't want to exclude service dogs ever.
The 25-and-under hours are as follows:
* 10 a.m. to noon Sundays
* 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
All other open hours are for dogs of all sizes.
In a perfect world, there would be a fenced area for little dogs as part of the park, but expense and size of the park prevented that this time. This is the next-best thing for those whose dogs can't hang with the big dogs. I hope it works.
