Letter: Social Security gives Alaskans security and peace of mind

The blue moon didn't happen for Alaskans due to our perpetual overcast and rain showers. On the bright side, many of our retirees experienced the sure-to-happen deposit of their Social Security payments once again.

Think about the impact on Alaska retirees that Social Security has had during its 78 years of never missing a payment!

It's true Alaska's retirees earned their monthly payments because they contributed to Social Security during their years of employment. As a result, they have a dignified retirement knowing they can live independent lives.

Best of all, they are free to provide volunteer services to many worthwhile organizations. This adds to the richness of their lives and greatly benefits our community.
