Roth, Sumulong share Open lead with 74s

Aaron Roth and Benji Sumulong fired 74s Saturday to share the first-day lead in the Anchorage Open golf tournament at Anchorage Golf Course.

Two strokes back is defending champion Brad Pitzer, who beat Sumulong in a playoff to win last year's city championship. Greg Sanders and Kory Smith are three strokes back at 77.

Terri McAngus, who dominated the Alaska State Amateur earlier this month, leads the women's competition with a 76. She's 10 strokes ahead of Becky Erickson.

The tournament concludes Sunday at AGC.

South 6, Service 3

Whitney Williams and the doubles team of Palden Flynn and Zoey Flynn didn't give up a game Saturday while winning matches in the South tennis team's 6-3 win over Service.

In the meet's closest match, Service's Matthew Stone and Fiona Bruce won a 10-8 tiebreaker over South's Bryce Foster and Tyanna Baker.
