Letter: Nobel laureate speaks at UAA

On behalf of UAA, the University Honors College brought a remarkable man back to Alaska. Brian Schmidt, Nobel laureate for his demonstration of the acceleration of the expansion of the universe, spoke to UAA freshmen and to the public last weekend. There was a large turnout filling overflow rooms and a repeat public lecture Sunday evening. Dr. Schmidt delivered inspiring presentations to 1,200 students at Bartlett High School (his alma mater), Alaska Middle College School, Colony and Palmer high schools, Rogers Park Elementary and three press interviews.

This is the ninth year the University Honors College has presented world-class thinkers to inspire the UAA freshmen convocation and the community. Congratulations to UAA and Dean Ronald Spatz. Great job; well done.
