SAM'S CLUB GRAND OPENING

Large retailer to open new location at Tikahtnu Commons tomorrow

ANCHORAGE, AK – The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce will help commemorate the opening of Sam's Club new Muldoon location with a ribbon cutting ceremony, starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 1074 North Muldoon Road.

The ceremony will feature special events, savings on select merchandise and presentations by local dignitaries.

Anchorage Chamber president Andrew Halcro and Sam's Club general manager Doug McIntosh will assist in the ribbon cutting during the retailer's grand opening event.

"We're adding approximately 50,000 square feet with the new club," said McIntosh. "Now our members can access all the features a full-size Sam's Club has to offer. We're excited that we're now offering a pharmacy, a hearing aid center, a fresh bakery, a members-only fuel station and other services."

The new club will be more than 50 percent bigger than the former Penland Parkway location. With the expanded size, a greater product assortment will be available.

To better serve members at the expanded facility, McIntosh said he expects to hire more than 80 new associates.

During Thursday's ribbon cutting, members of Bartlett High School's ROTC's Color Guard will make a presentation of colors while Bartlett's Glee Club will sing the national anthem. Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan will also be on hand to say a few words before opening the doors to the public.

Other guest appearances include Hall of Fame musher DeeDee Jonrowe, author and nutrition expert Dr. Andrew Myers and Mrs. Alaska-America 2013 Gwynnedolynne James.

Sam's Club will also showcase favorite local businesses at the celebration. Attractions will include fresh-caught Alaskan fish from Copper River Seafoods and premium-roasted coffee beans from Silverhook Alaska Coffee.
