Boy dies after being hit by car while bicycling across Glenn Highway

An 11-year-old boy has died at Providence Alaska Medical Center after being struck by a car while trying to ride his bicycle across the Glenn Highway in Anchorage last week, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Dante Gibbs had made it across three lanes of traffic to the highway median near Muldoon Road around 7:40 p.m. Sept. 2 and was trying to cross the next three lanes when he was hit by a Pontiac sedan driven by Victor Cloninger, 37, according to a written statement from APD spokeswoman Anita Shell.

Cloninger was not cited, Castro said. Gibbs was taken to Providence but never regained consciousness and died early Wednesday morning, according to Shell.
