Photo: Visiting runner posts first sub-4-minute mile in Alaska history

Former University of Wisconsin All-American Jack Bolas, right, leaves pacer Daniel Stockberger behind after Lap 3 on his way to a 3:58.3 mile in the Alaska Dome on Friday afternoon. It is believed to be the first time the mile has ever been run in under 4 minutes in Alaska. The Dome time trial was sponsored by Skinny Raven Sports and New Balance, which sponsored a series of cross-country races in Alaska this season.

Bolas, 25, now trains in South Carolina and owns a personal-best 3:53.5 in the outdoor mile.

At a race in Portland this summer, Kodiak's Trevor Dunbar, currently running for the University of Oregon, became the first Alaskan to finish the mile in under 4 minutes
