Letters: Put up, shut up on Obamacare

The U.S. House of Representatives threatens to shut down the federal government unless the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is defunded. This threat comes after years and 41 votes to eliminate the ACA. No competing legislation is offered, just repeal.

The ACA can certainly be improved. But returning to a health care system that costs more yet delivers less drives small businesses and families into bankruptcy, increases premiums due to emergency room free riders, and consists of insurance policies that fail to cover pregnancies and pre-existing conditions isn't the answer.

True leaders would develop better ideas and amend or replace the ACA. It's time to evoke the "Put up or shut up" rule.
