Dimond stays unbeaten on volleyball court with sweep of South

The Dimond volleyball team remained undefeated by handing South its first loss of the Cook Inlet Conference season Wednesday at Dimond High.

The Lynx scored a 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 sweep in a rematch of the last three Class 4A state title matches.

Defending state champion Dimond (5-0) got a big night from Leah Swiss, who racked up 24 kills and 21 digs. Chrisalyn Johnson came up with nine kills and 10 digs, and Jenna Mixson turned in 19 assists and 13 digs.

Kayla Sims led South (4-1) with eight kills and Caitlin Sweeney finished with five.

Chugiak 3, Bartlett 0

Natalie Stark and Kirstin Veech each scored seven kills Wednesday to help Chugiak sweep visiting Bartlett 25-5, 25-17, 25-15 in a CIC volleyball match.

Rachel Topf dished 10 assists to go with five kills for the Mustangs, who also got seven digs and two aces from Veech and three blocks from Stark.

Fia Manu led the Bartlett attack with six kills, an ace and a block. Savannah Sahara recorded two kills and a block, and Autumn Plews contributed three kills.

West 3, Service 0

Each set came down to the wire between West and Service on Wednesday, but West escaped with a 28-26, 25-23, 26-24 sweep at Service High in a CIC volleyball match.

Rita Dexter and Ashlee Tua each struck for eight kills to lead West. Annett Fraafetai distributed 22 assists, and Hanna Lance added seven digs and two aces from Hanna Lance.

Alyssa Flynn accumulated seven kills and 13 digs, and Monique Mojica had 26 digs for Service.

East 3, Eagle River 0

Getting a match-high nine kills from Morgan Hill, the East volleyball team glided past Eagle River 25-22, 25-7, 28-26 in a CIC match at Eagle River High.

Sydney Smith tossed in seven kills for the T-birds, with Kyla Liafau ripping five aces and five kills.

Kyla Meadows' seven kills led the Wolves, who got five blocks from Kara Viotto and six digs from Ally Cameron.
