Letter: State missteps on alcohol abuse

It is a complete disappointment to the citizens of Alaska, that even with the gigantic tax increase on alcohol purchases, (which did nothing to deter any Alaskan from their normal consumption) and the truckload of money the state is making off of these taxes, that there is a loophole that robs people who are in desperate need of help … all because the state wants proof that the programs will work before allocating the money. Sound like some greedy baloney! Where’s the proof they aren’t spending this alcohol tax money elsewhere?

And shouldn’t we try any of these programs that are available to help stem the rising numbers of substance abusers in Alaska?
