Taj Mahal
You may be among those who caught the performance by blues hero Taj Mahal outdoors at windy, drizzly Kincaid Park at the Blues on the Green concert in 2000. The accommodations will be more comfortable when he returns to Anchorage with his trio in Atwood Concert Hall, 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Long prominent in the roots/pop field, the two-time Grammy winner has expanded his palette over the years to include African, Caribbean, Latin, Hawaiian and other "world music" approaches. Light Brigade
Anchorage aerialists, dancers, musicians and others join as "The Light Brigade" in a site-specific multi-media art performance that will include wild lighting and film projections outside the Anchorage Museum, 625 C St. The event takes place as the night falls on summer for the last time in 2013, at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The show is part of the museum's Northern Initiative and it's free.
Radical Reels
UAA Student Activities presents the Banff Mountain Film Festival's Radical Reels Tour, a shot of high-adrenaline sports shorts featuring extreme climbing, paddling, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding and similar recreations that will leave you gasping. Titles include "The Rollerman," "Whitewater Grand Prix -- Big Water Enduro," "Wingsuit Downhill Target Punch," "Endless Roads" and "Where the Trail Ends," so maybe those roads aren't actually endless.
