It was disappointing to see that of the 640,436 receiving PFDs, a mere 26,093 made charitable contributions. That’s a paltry 4 percent! Come on, everybody. Let’s think a little about those organizations that are working hard to provide services for those less fortunate. Surely most of us can afford to cough up a small part of our annual freebie.
If 75 percent would donate only five dollars, Alaska charities would benefit to the tune of $2.4 million. But look at this: This year the 26,093 making donations averaged just pennies short of $92 each. If 75 percent averaged that much in donations it would come to more than $44 million. Let’s all remember this next year: “It is better to give than to receive.” Pick. Click. Give.
