Family members of a Bristol Bay woman reported missing Friday say the last person to see her was her husband, who police say shot and killed himself after they initiated a traffic stop Friday evening.
Searchers were still canvassing the Southwest Alaska town of King Salmon for Reanna "Rose" Anderson on Sunday, the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department said.
Family members say Anderson's husband, Kyle Anderson, last reported seeing her on the evening of Sept. 17 at their home in King Salmon, according to family spokesperson Heather Reader.
Anderson's employer called her mother Friday, after the 24-year-old missed work twice in a row, she said.
Her mother called police right away.
"That's not like her to miss work," Reader said.
On Friday, Kyle Anderson fatally shot himself as Bristol Bay Borough police officers tried to pull him over in King Salmon, according to police chief Rodney Enevoldsen.
Police have not said whether they believe Kyle Anderson was involved with Reanna Anderson's disappearance.
Reader said she didn't want to talk about the couple or their marriage.
An investigation into the disappearance is ongoing, said Teresa Coghill, a Bristol Bay Borough Police Department spokeswoman Sunday.
Reanna Anderson, whose maiden name is Lawrence, grew up in Naknek and graduated from Bristol Bay Borough schools in 2007, Reader said.
After high school, she spent time in Seattle interning with Ocean Beauty seafoods but returned to Alaska and married Anderson, Reader said. The couple has young daughter who is now staying with grandparents.
Anderson was working at the airport ticket counter for PenAir when she disappeared, Reader said.
"She's just a really strong person. And her daughter is everything to her. She'd never go away without talking to her daughter or knowing where she was."
The Bristol Bay community has turned out to search for Anderson, Reader said.
"This community has pulled together," she said. "It's amazing."
On Sunday, the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department was searching alongside Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Katmai National Park Rangers and community volunteers, according to Coghill.
