Strong showing by Alaska's two clubs in the North American Hockey League at the circuit's Showcase in Blaine, Minn., last week -- both the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and Kenai River Brown Bears went 4-0-0, matching the Austin (Minn.) Bruins, the only other squad to go 4-0-0. (Stick salute to reader Franklin for the heads-up).

Fairbanks and Austin shared the championship -- both were +10 in goal differential.

Kenai River forward Alec Butcher of Anchorage, is tied for first in the league in scoring with 4-4--8 and +4 totals in six games. Last season for the Brown Bears, he went 10-20--30 and +11 in 41 games.

The leading scorer for Fairbanks is Viktor Liljegren of Sweden, who owns 4-3--7 totals in six games. The Ice Dogs, a perennial power, are 6-0-0. Kenai River is 4-2-0 -- they dropped a pair of home games to Fairbanks to open the season.

Top goalie for Fairbanks is Lake Superior State-bound Kevin Aldridge, who is 4-0-0 with a 1.71 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and one shutout. Kenai River's Zach Quinn is 4-1-0 with a 2.28 and .909.
