Eagle River teen recovering from accidental shooting

A 17-year-old from Eagle River was shot in the abdomen after a gun misfired in an Eagle River garage Tuesday just before 9:30 p.m., Anchorage police said. The teen, a male who was not identified, was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening at an area hospital, police said.

A friend of the victim, an adult male, called 911, police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said. He told dispatchers the pair was "moving the gun out of a safe to clean it," Castro wrote in an email. Police and medics responded.

The victim's parents were not home at the time, Castro said.
