Flag football: West, South triumph

West 20, Eagle River 7

Abby Fisher scored two touchdowns Tuesday to help the West flag football team to a 20-7 Cook Inlet Conference road victory over Eagle River.

West led 7-0 at halftime on a 9-yard touchdown reception by Fisher, who added a 35-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. Maggie Patela scored the Eagles' second touchdown on a 2-yard run.

West's Annie Rush carried the ball nine times for 70 yards, and Hailee Brown hauled in five catches for 54 yards. Sam Navarro led the West defense with six pulls, Kyana Cornejo came up with five pulls and Natalie Manskie recorded three pulls for a loss.

Eagle River's lone touchdown came from quarterback Lauren Frost on a long run from around midfield.

South 21, East 6

Julia Carmack ran for a touchdown, threw for a touchdown and ran in three PAT conversions Tuesday, fueling South's 21-6 triumph over East in a CIC flag football game at South.

Carmack scored on a 22-yard run in the second quarter and a 5-yard pass to Hailey Hodgson in the third quarter.

East's Sierra Rosenzweig's 10-yard touchdown reception made it 14-6 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, Sabrina Ungara padded South's lead with a 57-yard TD run.

Mackenzie Smith's two interceptions spark the South defense.

Dimond 34, Chugiak 6

Dimond's Malia Lyken accumulated more than 200 yards of offense and scored five touchdowns Monday, and the Lynx blew by host Chugiak 34-6 in a CIC flag football game.

Lyken ran for 125 yards and caught three passes for 122 yards. She scored rushing touchdowns of 46 and five yards and all three of her receptions went for touchdowns of 30, 75 and 17 yards. Each of those touchdown passes came from quarterback Tara Thompson, who completed 6 of 8 passes for 146 yards and added 59 rushing yards on seven carries.

Vanessa Tufaga, who rushed for 35 yards on 10 carrries, led the defense with seven pulls. Thompson added six pulls and two of Whitney Jackson's four pulls were for losses. Lauren Hines added two pulls and an interception to go with her two receptions for 21 yards.
