Goaltender Michael Matyas, who didn't play a second for UAA's hockey team last season as a rookie and thus is still listed as a freshman, will get playing time Friday night when the Seawolves entertain the University of British Columbia in an exhibition at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
UAA first-year coach Matt Thomas said Matyas will split time with either of UAA's two senior goalies, Chris Kamal or Rob Gunderson. The coach said he would not use all three goalies.
"Only because I think 20 minutes of game time isn't enough for a goalie,'' Thomas said.
Thomas said sophomore forward Hayden Trupp will sit out the game with a lower-body injury that isn't serious and another skater might sit with a minor injury.
Thomas said he is eager to get a look at his team in game conditions.
"For me, I really want to see us compete,'' he said. "I want to make sure our habits in all three zones are where they need to be.
"I'm hoping it's a really hard game to play in. I hope we have a good battle level. I want this game to push us.''
