Credit Union 1 president to retire, new president is named

Credit Union 1's President and CEO, Leslie Ellis will retire at the end of this year after a 30-year career at the helm. Tom Newins, longtime Credit Union 1 executive and current Chief Operating Officer, will take over as the new President/CEO.

Ellis has been the President/CEO of Credit Union 1 since 1983 after joining the credit union in 1981. "It is her insight, passion, and commitment to our values that has gotten us to where we are today," said Board Chairman, Roger Aldrich.

"Under Leslie's leadership, Credit Union 1 has merged several credit unions to form what is now one of the strongest credit unions in the country. Through economic ups and downs, she's managed to grow the credit union at a steady pace in all areas. This is a true testament to her dedication, optimism and courage. She's a true credit union leader and on behalf of the Board of Directors, I thank her for her unwavering commitment to the success of Credit Union 1," said Aldrich.

After her retirement, Ellis will remain in a consulting position to the credit union's board of directors.

Credit Union 1 promotes Chief Operating Officer, Tom Newins, to President/CEO. A seasoned industry veteran, Newins brings over 21 years of experience in various positions at Credit Union 1.

Newins will replace Leslie Ellis, who is retiring at the end of this year after a 30-year career as Credit Union 1's President and CEO. Ellis will remain in a consulting position to the credit union's board of directors.

"Tom Newins has been with the credit union for over two decades and has a proven track record of success," said Credit Union 1's Board Chairman, Roger Aldrich. "Tom's leadership skills, in-house experience, and commitment to Credit Union 1's culture, members and employees make him a great fit for moving Credit Union 1 forward."

Over the past two decades, Newins has held several positions within Credit Union 1, through which he has gained experience in departments as far-ranging as Internal Audit, Marketing, Staff Training and Branch Operations. Newins also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and graduated this summer from Western CUNA Management School.

"I have worked with Tom for more than 20 years and I am so pleased the Board of Directors selected him as my successor," said Ellis. "This promotion recognizes the critical role Tom plays in ensuring our daily operations run smoothly and that our members receive superior member service. Tom's unique and varied experience [makes] him imminently qualified for his latest promotion.
