Habitat for Humanity has new executive director

Habitat for Humanity-Anchorage has announced the appointment of Normand Lagasse as its executive director.

Lagasse, who had previously served as Executive Director for the Alaska Aviation Museum in Anchorage, will replace previous Habitat for Humanity-Anchorage Executive Director Craig Jaeger, who has moved out of state to pursue new opportunities.

Lagasse holds a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, which he put to use during a 22-year career in the Air Force as an officer and pilot. Since 1993, Lagasse has also served as owner of Northern Technical Applications, a technical consulting firm which provides problem solving and troubleshooting expertise to prototype project design as well as facility upgrades of museums and exhibits.

He served as a Board Member and officer with the statewide association, Museums Alaska from 2009-2012. Lagasse has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity intermittently since 2005, including on-site work as a team leader at the current Habitat development, the Neighbor Drive Subdivision.

"I'm looking forward to using an organizational 'tool belt' for helping Habitat For Humanity-Anchorage reaches new heights in working with partner families and the community as we address the shortage of simple, decent, affordable housing in Anchorage. I will still occasionally grab my carpenter's tool belt and work alongside our partner families, staff and volunteers at the job site so I don't forget the basics."

As Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity-Anchorage, Lagasse will oversee the continued construction of the Neighbor Drive Subdivision, a multi-family housing development in East Anchorage that will provide affordable housing for 23 Anchorage families. His initial focus will be expanding the capacity and capabilities of the Habitat team, including both professional staff and volunteers.
