South flag football team blanks West

Julia Carmack rushed for two touchdowns and Maddie Jungwirth intercepted two passes, powering South's 20-0 shutout of West in a Cook Inlet Conference flag football game at Anchorage Football Stadium.

Carmack, who rushed 40 and 22 yards for a pair of touchdowns, also connected with Claire Lovering for another score. Lovering went 27 yards for a touchdown on the catch-and-run play.

"South played a great game defensively," West coach Travis Cantrell said. "We couldn't get anything going."

But after giving up three first-half scores, the Eagles shut out South in the second half. Anchoring West's defense were Cecelia Karoly-Lester (9 pulls), Grace Kubitz (8 pulls, five for losses) and Natalie Manske (6 pulls, five for losses).

Sabrina Ungaro and Kalli Albright scored PAT conversations for South.
