Eagle River 14, South 13
Late defensive heroics by Becky Wyatt and a pair of touchdowns from Lauren Frost helped the Eagle River flag football team spoil South's Senior Night with a 14-13 Cook Inlet Conference win Tuesday at South High.
South (8-4) pulled within a point with less than three minutes to play and attempted to tie the score at 14-14 with a one-point conversion, but Wyatt was there to thwart the attempt with a pull that preserve a win for the Wolves (4-8), who ran out the clock with their final possession.
Frost, who scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter, broke a 7-7 tie with a 1-yard scoring run near the end of the third quarter. Tara Fisher converted an extra-point run to give Eagle River a 14-7 lead.
South started its final drive from its own 14-yard line in the final minutes of the third quarter and maintained possession until scoring near the end of the fourth.
Dimond 35, Bartlett 28
Dimond flag football's undefeated record was in jeopardy Tuesday night, but the Lynx escaped with a 35-28 victory over Bartlett in a CIC game that included three lead changes at Dimond High.
Dimond (12-0) broke a 28-28 tie on a 32-yard game-winning touchdown pass from Tara Thompson to Lauren Hines with 1:06 to play.
Bartlett (4-8) led 13-0 before Dimond rallied for two quick scores late in the second quarter, taking a 14-13 lead into halftime on a 65-yard interception return by Malia Lyken. Dimond led 21-13 in the third quarter, but Bartlett came back to forge a 21-21 tie and later led 28-21 before the Lynx scored two unanswered touchdowns to seal the win.
Lyken finished with 151 rushing yards on 11 carries that included an 83-yard scoring run. Hines made a 17-yard scoring reception for the first of her two touchdowns and Caitlyn Dubie reeled in a 35-yard touchdown catch from Thompson, who completed 7 of 10 pass attempts for 162 yards and three touchdowns.
Thompson also led the Dimond defense with 12 pulls, Vanessa Tufaga notched six pulls and Hines contributed an interception.
Chugiak 21, Service 18
Chugiak's Holly Brehmer scored three touchdowns Tuesday to help the Mustangs survive a see-saw 21-18 win over Service in a CIC flag football game at Anchorage Football Stadium.
Brehmer raced to pay dirt from 80 yards, 40 yards and 30 yards to match Service's three touchdowns. The difference came in the form of extra points, which Brehmer, Ashleigh Sitz and Alise Arnold converted for Chugiak.
Service struck first to lead 6-0 and the teams traded touchdowns until Chugiak scored the game's last in the third quarter. Chugiak's defense sealed the win by stopping the Cougars on a fourth-and-goal situation from the Chugiak 15-yard line with just more than a minute remaining.
A big run by Janisaa Arize helped Chugiak run out the clock and pull into a tie for fourth place with Service at 5-7.
West 26, East 6
Behind two touchdown receptions from Abby Fisher, West rolled to a 26-6 CIC flag football win over East at Anchorage Football Stadium on Tuesday.
Fisher caught touchdown passes of 45 and 75 yards to finish with 120 receiving yards. Maggie Patela added a 30-yard touchdown run for the Eagles, who got six pulls and an interception from Grace Kubitz.
West improved to 6-6 and East fell to 4-8.
