Assembly delays vote on labor law referendum

The Anchorage Assembly will not vote at its special meeting Wednesday on the scheduling of a referendum on the city's controversial new labor ordinance, which passed last spring with the backing of Mayor Dan Sullivan.

Two of the Assembly's 11 members will be absent from Wednesday's meeting, said Chair Ernie Hall, making it unlikely that the Assembly would be able to reach a simple majority of six votes on any of the measures being considered at the meeting.

Hall said he expects the Assembly to vote on the scheduling of the referendum at its next meeting, on Oct. 22.
