Anchorage car crash leaves one driver in critical condition

A three-vehicle accident Thursday night near the intersection of Lake Otis Parkway and Dowling Road left one person in critical condition.

Police reported that a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup was headed east on Dowling Road and making a left turn onto Lake Otis Parkway around 9:26 p.m. A Chevy Tahoe failed to stop at a red light and collided with the truck and then hit another big SUV -- a 2002 Chevy Suburban -- that was stopped near the intersection.

The driver of the Tahoe was ejected and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. As of Friday morning, the driver remained in critical condition, according to police.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said the driver of the Ford pickup was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The four passengers and driver of the Suburban were not injured, she said.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. The crash is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
