Anchorage dentist arrested for DUI

A retired Anchorage dentist was arrested on charges of driving under the influence early Monday after he nearly hit a pedestrian along the Seward Highway while under court orders to not drink alcohol, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers got a report of the incident near Mile 109 of the Seward Highway at 12:34 p.m., according to a dispatch released Tuesday afternoon. They stopped George Trube Murphy, 65, of Girdwood about five miles away. Murphy's 2013 Toyota Tundra also almost collided with a guardrail, troopers said.

An investigation revealed Murphy was driving the pickup under the influence of alcohol, troopers said. He was on court-ordered conditions of release from a DUI arrest five days earlier that included not consuming alcohol.

Murphy was taken to Anchorage Jail on $2,500 bail plus release to a third-party custodian.

Murphy started his practice, Murphy Family Dental, more than 40 years ago, according to the company's website.
