Bicyclist hospitalized after being struck in crosswalk by car

A bicyclist was taken to a hospital after being hit by a car in a crosswalk at Lake Otis Parkway and Dowling Road on Wednesday morning, according to Anchorage police.

Diolito Arendain, 59, was driving a silver 2003 Kia sedan in the southbound lane of Lake Otis Parkway making a right turn onto Dowling Road when he hit Patrick Erwin, 42, of Anchorage in the crosswalk, said Jennifer Castro, police spokeswoman.

She said Erwin, who had the right of way, was heading north on Lake Otis Parkway when Arendain hit him.

The seriousness or extent of Erwin's injuries weren't immediately known. The injuries weren't life-threatening, Castro said.

She said Erwin was wearing reflective gear and had flashing lights on his bike.
