Letter: Remove feral beeves from island

Now that the feral rats have been removed from Rat Island, perhaps Alaska Maritime Wildlife Refuge managers should take another look at removing the feral cattle from Chirikof Island.

The cattle were put there, for the most part in the mid-twentieth century, to be harvested for food. Now the master plan is to restore the island to seabird habitat. But cow-huggers, legal obstructionists and folks who don't know the difference between a species and a breed are united against this plan.

Chirikof would be a nice bird-watching destination, absent the risk of being head-butted by a gang of feral beeves.
