A 19-year-old Soldotna man died, as paramedics tried to save him, from a gunshot wound he sustained while hunting alone, Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said Sunday.
Jonathan Granger was hunting off Isaak Road near mile 98 of the Sterling Highway Sunday afternoon, Peters said, when something went wrong. He called family to say that he was hurt.
When paramedics called by family members arrived around 2:30 p.m. Sunday they found Granger conscious and lucid.
"He was talking when we got there but died at the scene," Peters said.
Granger had a torso wound, she said.
The circumstances that led to the shooting aren't yet known.
