Man's death in Anchorage hotel was result of gunshot, police say

Anchorage police found a man dead in a Midtown hotel late Sunday after other guests and an employee heard a single gunshot inside an upstairs room.

An employee of the Motel 6 at 5000 A Street called 911 about 10:15 p.m. and officers arrived minutes later to find the dead man, who had not been publicly identified as of Monday morning, police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said. Crime scene investigators were still combing the hotel room for clues, Castro said.

"Right now we're trying to determine if it was an intentional shooting, an accidental shooting or a suicide," Castro said. "I don't think we're saying right now how many people were in the room, but it does sound like there were witnesses to the shooting."

Detectives were interviewing the witnesses and trying to determine if foul play was involved in the man's death, Castro said.
