Recently nihilist anarchists (i.e., Tea Party Republicans determined to destroy government) nearly accomplished their goal. Fortunately, most people recognize that government can, and does, provide many necessary services — not perfectly, but, in its proper fields of competence, better than private markets would (or could).
Government has a natural place in any balanced society (along with communities and markets), which rational people recognize, and only ideological zealots do not. But the zealots will get another chance to destroy our society in just a few months. Pray for us.
