Former Alaska Aces winger Eric Neilson of the AHL's Syracuse Crunch and Brett Gallant of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers engaged in a fight Saturday night that was so epic it earned the Fight of the Week honor from hockeyfights.com
Longtime Aces fans may remember the moment that shortly thereafter allowed Neilson to say goodbye to the ECHL and hello to the AHL -- in a Janurary 2008 fight, he switched from throwing right hands and dropped Victoria's Kiel McLeod with a wicked left that was about as vicious a one-punch knockout as you'll ever see.
Man, don't know how these guys do this.
In any event, Neilson and Gallant's throwdown, which was simply ferocious, can be watched by clicking here. The fight scored a rating of 8.8 on a scale of 10 by readers of hockeyfights.com
Wasn't sure there had ever been a fight rated so highly. Checked around, though, and wouldn't you know it, Neilson in 2011 was involved in an AHL fights with Steve MacIntyre that earned a 9.4 rating. The amazing thing in that bout, which you can check out here, is that Neilson ate some wicked punches -- he was leaking pretty good -- and not only stayed up but kept throwing punches. Yikes.
