Letter: Dutch Harbor: Many frights daily

As a past resident of Unalaska, I disagree with USA Today's listing of the top 10 most thrilling airports. The 4100-foot runway at Dutch Harbor, 800 miles west in the Aleutians, has no equal. Ocean on three sides, a rock cliff on the remaining. Landing in a jet in high winds is enough to silence even the most seasoned crab fishermen. Throw some snow into that mixture and it is a trill of a ride.

Several years ago, an incoming pilot was asking for directions to the terminal. The ground crew instructed him not to land due to poor visibility.

"I am on the ground. Where is the terminal?"
