Anchorage police have identified a man shot dead in a Midtown hotel room Sunday night.
He is Jose Cortez, 25, police said Wednesday. Officers found Cortez dead after an employee of the Motel 6 at 5000 A Street called 911 to report hearing a single gunshot from an upstairs room about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said.
There were others in the room, Castro said, but so far nobody has been charged in connection to the case. An autopsy would answer some questions about Cortez's death, including whether the shooting was intentional, accidental or if another person was involved, Castro said.
