Eielson Air Force Base near Fairbanks was locked down for an hour Friday because of a false report of an active shooter on base, according to the Air Force.
The base shut down at 11:30 a.m. after it received a report of a gunman at the 168th Air Refueling Wing facility, said the Air Force.
First responders arrived at the facility to find the false alarm was caused by personnel testing a public address system that alerts those on base of an emergency, said the Air Force.
Zachary Perras, a senior airman on the base, said Air Force security forces are usually the first to respond to an emergency, but he didn't know who was first on the scene.
The false alarm is under investigation, according to the Air Force.
