Letter: Turning on red optional

I am fascinated by the writer who considers it a traffic violation to stop at a red light. Last time I checked, stopping on red was mandatory. Turning on red is optional, when you are legally allowed to so. I am under no obligation to make a legal turn at a red light if I feel unsafe for any reason. And in this town those reasons are plenty.

Having seen too many accidents from turning on red, I am destined to be a source of irritation to the driver who demands I leave before the light turns green. Sorry, bud, I don't care if you are in such a hurry. I am not. I plan on living a long time. Good luck getting anyone arrested for the "violation" of safe driving. Remember: Green means go, red means stop.
