Letter: Mayor trying to right a wrong

Sunday's "Our View" regarding the mayor's fight for AO37 states in part: "Timing for political advantage isn't honest governing but a brazen attempt to tip the scales" suggests some kind of nefarious action on the part of our mayor. I would suggest the mayor is only trying to get union power over the citizens of Anchorage under control and mitigate our tax burden given the extraordinary salaries and benefits we pay.

That said, I would point out that previous Mayor Mark Begich made a deal with the unions for support that burdened the citizens of Anchorage with excessive taxation in order to get the edge he needed to unseat Sen. Ted Stevens, a man of honor devoted to his state. Liberals cannot have it both ways. Others may have a short memory but I don't.
