Chugiak 10, Bartlett 1
Taylor Garner scored a hat trick and Kris Tomazevic scored two goals and two assists Tuesday to power Chugiak past Bartlett 10-1 in a season-opening Cook Inlet Conference hockey game at Ben Boeke Arena.
A game’s worth of action was packed into the final 39 seconds of the first period, when the teams combined for three goals.
Chugiak was already ahead 2-0 and quickly went up 4-0 on goals from Garner, who scored on the power play with 39 seconds left, and Andrew Beckett, who scored with 25 seconds left. Bartlett’s Joel Johnson found the net with four seconds left to make it 4-1 at the break.
Jack Straub stopped 26 shots on goal for the Mustangs. Malakye Felix turned back 45 shots for Bartlett.
Wasilla 2, West 1
The Wasilla hockey team edged West 2-1 on Tuesday in a nonconference game at the McDonald Center in Eagle River.
Wasilla’s Garrett Conroy opened scoring less than three minutes into the second period, and the Warriors took a 2-0 lead early in the third period on a goal from Luke Schruf. Troy Verplancke and Blake Carricaburu each earned assists on the second goal.
West’s only goal came from Austin Walker on a power play late in the third period, with Ilya Turchaninov and Ryder Schwamm each bagging assists on the play.
West goalie Joe Chekan and Wasilla goalie Wyatt Monear each made 23 saves.
