Chugiak, South and Dimond all earned first-round sweeps Tuesday in the Cook Inlet Conference volleyball tournament, a double elimination event at Service High.

Service, Bartlett and Eagle River were on the losing end, but can still battle through the losers bracket for a CIC title. The top three finishers earn a spot in next week's state tournament.

Morgan Christy led the Cougars with nine kills and four blocks, Tayleigh Talmadge contributed eight kills and a block, with Monique Mojica accumulating 16 digs.

South rolled to a 25-6, 25-9, 25-13 win over Bartlett behind 31 assists from Kayla Sims, 16 digs from Aspen Avery and eight kills from Claire Lacey. Kate McGrath came up big on the service line with four aces.

Defending CIC and state champion Dimond dismantled Eagle River 25-10, 25-4, 25-11. Allie McDonnell helped run the offense with 17 assists, and Heidi Andrus sparked the defense with 12 digs. Leah Swiss flirted with a double-double, notching 10 digs and eight kills, with Taliyah Edwards and Dakayla Walters each smacking six kills.
