November 2013 Issue Hits the Road for the 10 Most Unforgettable Country Drives
Milwaukee, WI (November 5, 2013)—The November EXTRA issue of Country—the magazine for readers who love the land and life of the countryside—offers an unforgettable road trip this fall with a special 32-page section titled "2013 Best Scenic Roads" which highlights America's Top 10 most picturesque country drives. Alaska's Seward Highway is among those selected as one of the country's most unforgettable, must-see roads.
To create the list, Country asked their trusted scenic photographers to pick the most beautiful byways. They came up with an impressive list of roads that the Country editors then narrowed down, making sure to choose intriguing drives from the north, south, east and west—journeys that wind through some of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes you'll find in America. The list includes something for everyone, spanning quiet country roads and highways with vast skylines.
Alaska's Seward Highway climbs over mountain passes where you're surrounded by jaw-dropping views of jagged peaks, rain forests, crystal lakes and the Pacific Ocean—this highway is a photographer's dream. Potter Marsh marks the end of city views and the beginning of wilderness—it is truly a birder's paradise. While driving along this road, stop off to hike, ski or just to step outside and enjoy the view.

Here's a peek at some of the other roads that made the 2013 Best Scenic Roads list:
· Going-To–The Sun Road (MT): This journey across Glacier National Park will take your breath away. Northwest Montana has spectacular vistas, waterfalls flying off mountaintops, a riot of summer wildflowers and a feast of fall colors that will leave you speechless. The road is always accompanied by Rocky Mountain elk, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and grizzly bears to make your adventure even wilder.
· Oregon Coast Highway (OR): The breathtaking views, forested headlands, sublime sandy beaches and—best of all—accessibility of the Oregon coast make for a scenic drive unlike any other in the country. The ocean is often within sight of the road, which offers easy access to more than 80 state parks and recreation areas. Whether you're taking pictures, fishing, or watching whales or birds, the Oregon Coast Highway offers an accessible adventure.
· Doors County Coastal Byway (WI): Wisconsin's Highway 42 is a smorgasbord of vineyards, quaint harbor villages, park retreats and stunning bayside sunsets. Cherry and apple orchards border many of the roadways between villages, serving up a visual feast of blossoms in the spring. Highway 42's final mile and a half zigzags through a beautiful maple and beech forest, ending at the Northport Ferry dock.
· Natchez Trace Parkway (MS): This parkway winds through centuries of history, taking visitors through countryside and cities, past battlefields and barns. Though much of the original trail is now unrecognizable, the parkway awaits modern-day explorers. There are no commercial vehicles allowed on the route, making it a slow, relaxing journey. This timeworn path runs through three states—Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee—and unveils the scenic beauty and scintillating history of the Old South.
· Blue Grass Valley Road (VA): Tucked away in the Alleghenys is a little-known haven where vistas never fail to soothe, comfort and charm. The beautiful route of Blue Grass Valley Road reveals breathtaking wide-open vistas that stretch into the mountains beyond. The fence-lined road passes barns and neatly kept farmhouses scattered among the rolling hills and broad pastures tucked in among the wooded mountain ridges. During autumn, the sugar maples that produce Highland County's famous syrup in spring turn the most glorious shades of red, yellow and orange, painting this magnificent landscape with vibrant color.
